Detailed composition:

Aqua: water (aqueous phase of emulsion)

Centaurea Cyanus Flower Water: cornflower floral water, obtained by hydro-distillation of organic cornflowers. We use it for its soothing properties, which help to reduce skin discomfort.

Xanthan gum: a naturally occurring thickener used as a texturiser

Vaccinium Corymbosum Fruit Extract : extract of blueberries from the Vosges mountains, rich in chlorogenic acid and bioflavonoids, which protect skin cells from damage caused by free radicals and oxidative stress.

Abies alba extract: silver fir extract from the Vosges, rich in catechin, non-polar antioxidant flavonoids and piceid, the last of which is a major resveratrol derivative, which inhibits tyrosinase, an enzyme known to cause liver spots.

Lonicera Caerulea Fruit: extract derived from haskap fruit. Rich in loganic acid and sophorin, it helps maintain the optimal level of hyaluronic acid responsible for hydrating the upper layers of the epidermis.

Sambucus Nigra Fruit Extract, Sambucus Nigra Flower Extract: black elderberry extract combines the effects of ursolic acid and rutin which are present in the flowers and fruits of this shrub. These molecules have antioxidant properties and inhibit enzymes involved in the inflammatory response.

Rosa Canina Fruit Extract: dog rose extract protects elastin (the protein responsible for skin elasticity), hyaluronic acid (which hydrates the upper layers of the epidermis) and collagen (which has a plumping effect) by inhibiting the enzymes that degradate them.

Carrageenan: extracted from red algae extract. Carrageenans are part of a family of natural gelling agents. They give these products a jelly-like texture and are the perfect alternative to animal gelatin. As they are edible, they are frequently used as gelling against in yoghurts and custards.

Glycerine: glycerine has moisturising properties

Polygonum Bistorta Root Extract: extract from the root of bistort (a plant from the rhubarb family, common in the Vosges mountains). The name BIS-TORTA means that the root is twisted twice, forming an S shape. It is a powerful inhibitor of the in vitro activity of enzymes involved in skin integrity. (The red/garnet colour of the root extract is what makes eye contour pop.) According to Greek mythology, bistort’s origins are linked to Helen, the woman whose face launched a thousand ships in the Trojan War. When Canopus, faithful companion of Helen’s husband Menelaus, died from a snake bite, she burst into tears. Upon hitting the ground, these gave birth to bistort (hence why its other name is snakeroot).

Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol: a combination of alcohol and an acetic acid (vinegar) derivative, this is an antimicrobial agent. An eco-certified alternate preservative, we use it as a substitute for paraben and phenoxyethanol. It prevents the product from being contaminated by bacteria and microorganisms that are harmful to your skin It is essential to include a preservative in such a formula for sanitary reasons. A formula without preservatives quickly becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. However, we do not use controversial substances: we prefer mild preservatives that give a product a shelf life of 6 months after being opened.

Sodium hydroxide: a basifying agent used to increase the pH of the formula so that it is equal to the pH of the skin to avoid any risk of irritation

Perfume: (Fragrance): the composition of the fragrance is 100% natural and non-synthetic. The scent is made through the combination of natural, fragrant molecules. Phytodia Laboratories does not use synthetic fragrances. Linalool, limonene and other geraniols are often listed at the very end of the ingredient list. These are compounds found in the essential oils or natural fragrances used in the product. Their presence must be mentioned on the label. These 26 substances are small, volatile, odorous molecules that can cause allergic reactions where the product was applied on certain sensitive skin types. This is why their presence on the label is mandatory.

Limonene: fragrance allergen
