Detailed composition:
Aqua: water (aqueous phase of emulsion)
Mentha Piperita Flower/Leaf/Stem Water: peppermint floral water, obtained by hydro distillation of organic peppermint. It is invigorating and refreshing.
Xanthan gum: a naturally occurring thickener used as a texturiser.
Lauryl Glucoside: an extremely mild emulsifier made from sugars and lipids derived from corn and coconut oil. It allows emulsion to form, thus performing the same function as an egg yolk in mayonnaise, and distributes the product evenly when used.
Polyglyceryl-2 Dipolyhydroxystearate: a very stable emulsifier derived from glycerine and a fatty acid (stearic acid). It allows emulsion to form, thus performing the same function as an egg yolk in mayonnaise.
Glycerine: glycerine has moisturising properties
Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate: a very common emulsifier derived from stearic acid (lipid) and glutamate. It allows emulsion to form, thus performing the same function as an egg yolk in mayonnaise.
Behenyl Alcohol : fatty alcohol that comes in the form of wax and acts as an emollient and substitute for synthetic silicones. It has a non-greasy feel and regulates viscosity. An emollient is a substance that has the particularity of relaxing and softening the skin. Emollient creams are therefore useful and recommended for nourishing and caring for dry skin. An emollient relaxes, soothes, softens and smoothes the skin.
Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil: moisturising sunflower oil with a dry, non-greasy feel
Coco-Caprylate/Caprate : a natural emollient (a blend of coconut fatty alcohols and natural fatty acids) that we use as a substitute for synthetic silicones. It provides an optimal glide and a non-greasy, light feel that can be described as velvety.
Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol: a combination of alcohol and an acetic acid (vinegar) derivative, this is an antimicrobial agent. It prevents the product from being contaminated by bacteria and microorganisms that are harmful to your skin. It is essential to include a preservative in such a formula for sanitary reasons. A formula without preservatives quickly becomes a breeding ground for bacteria.
Tocopherol: natural vitamin E and a powerfully active antioxidant
Perfume: (Fragrance): the composition of the fragrance is 100% natural and non-synthetic. The scent is made through the combination of natural, fragrant molecules. Phytodia Laboratories does not use synthetic fragrances. Linalool, limonene and other geraniols are often listed at the very end of the ingredient list These are compounds found in the essential oils or natural fragrances used in the product. Their presence must be mentioned on the label. These 26 substances are small, volatile, odorous molecules that can cause allergic reactions where the product was applied on certain sensitive skin types. This is why their presence on the label is mandatory.
Abies alba extract: silver fir extract from the Vosges, rich in catechin, non-polar antioxidant flavonoids and piceid, the last of which is a major resveratrol derivative, which inhibits tyrosinase, an enzyme known to cause liver spots.
Sodium hydroxide: a basifying agent used to increase the pH of the formula so that it matches the pH of the skin, thereby preventing any risk of irritation.
Polygonum Bistorta Root Extract: extract from the root of bistort (a plant from the rhubarb family, common in the Vosges mountains). The name BIS-TORTA means that the root is twisted twice, forming an S shape. It is a powerful inhibitor of the in vitro activity of enzymes involved in skin integrity.
(The red/garnet colour of the root extract is what makes eye contour pop. According to Greek mythology, bistort’s origins are linked to Helen, the woman whose face launched a thousand ships in the Trojan War. When Canopus, faithful companion of Helen’s husband Menelaus, died from a snake bite, she burst into tears. Upon hitting the ground, these gave birth to bistort (hence why its other name is snakeroot).
Melissa Officinalis Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract: Extract of lemon balm, whose triterpenoids activate a receptor involved in fat metabolism. It is also rich in rosmarinic acid, a powerful inhibitor of elastase (which is responsible for the loss of skin elasticity).
Dryopteris Filix-Mas Leaf Extract: Extract of Vosges fern rich in flavanones, which act on enzymes that maintain skin firmness and appearance
Olea Europaea Leaf Extract: organic olive oil that is part of the oil phase in emulsion.
Alchemilla Vulgaris Extract: the corosolic acid contained within alchemilla vulgaris extract is a powerful active ingredient whose effect is combined with the oleanolic acid contained within olive leaves. It is a powerful active ingredient used for its fat-burning properties in reserve cells. Alchemilla is the plant of alchemists, hence its Latin name. The particular shape of its leaves allowed alchemists to easily collect dewdrops in the early morning, which they then used to make their elixirs. Alchemilla is a discreet plant often found in the French region of Alsace under the name Froïamantele. This name means ‘our lady’s mantle’ and dates back to the Middle Ages when alchemilla was the plant dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Alchemilla vulgaris’ common name in English is also ‘lady’s mantle’.
Limonene: fragrance allergen
